Smead 28940 folders are legal-size file folders built from 11-pt stock in a yellow colour family. Each box contains 50 folders with straight-cut tabs designed for numeric, alphabetic or bar-coded labels. Two fasteners in positions one and three give two separate filing options inside a single folder. The heavyweight material and reinforced tabs are made for high-volume record management.

Upgrade from single-fastener folders

The two-fastener layout replaces folders that only secure documents in one position, letting you subdivide a case file without adding a second folder. The jump is worth it when a single matter generates multiple document types that must stay together but remain distinct, such as correspondence and pleadings in the same legal matter. Single-fastener folders cannot keep those sets separated without risk of mixing.

Limits of tab labelling

Straight tabs provide a flat surface for handwritten, printed or bar-coded labels, but the label itself is not included and must be sourced separately. The 11-pt stock resists tearing at the tab, yet repeated re-labelling will eventually degrade the paper fibres. Folders expand to hold three-quarters of an inch of material, so very thick case files will exceed the capacity of a single folder.
