UVC 254 nm algae lamp for aquariums

This 3 W UVC lamp emits 254 nm light to clear green water in freshwater and saltwater tanks up to 350 gallon. It is designed for sump or filter compartments only and must never be placed in the display tank where it can harm fish. The oval glass tube measures 20.2 cm in length and fits standard filter housings. A built-in timer switch controls the 110 V 60 Hz power supply.

Installation in sump or filter housing

Mount the lamp inside a sump or external filter where water flows past the glass tube; do not submerge it in the main aquarium. Verify the filter cavity accepts the 20.2 cm length before purchase, as a tight fit prevents proper water exposure. The plug-in timer simplifies the recommended 3 to 4 hour cycle every 2 to 5 days. Incorrect placement in the display tank is the most common error and endangers livestock.

Limits of 254 nm UVC treatment

The 254 nm wavelength only affects water that passes directly through the irradiation zone, so flow rate and housing transparency determine effectiveness. It does not remove dissolved nutrients or replace mechanical filtration. The 3 W output is rated for volumes up to 350 gallon; larger systems need additional units. Continuous operation beyond the suggested schedule can degrade the lamp and stress beneficial bacteria.
