Voltage and current limits of Li-SOCl₂ chemistry

The open-circuit voltage sits at 3.66 volts while the nominal voltage under a one milliampere load is 3.6 volts. Continuous current is capped at 100 milliamperes and pulse current at 200 milliamperes, so the cells cannot drive high-drain loads such as bright LED arrays or motor-driven mechanisms. Passivation after long storage may cause a temporary voltage dip until a brief load is applied. The chemistry is not designed for recharging and must not be placed in a charger.

Each cell measures 14.5 millimetres in diameter and 50.5 millimetres in height, matching the standard AA form factor and weighing approximately 19 grams. The hermetic glass-to-metal seal prevents electrolyte leakage and allows an operating temperature span from minus 55 to plus 85 degrees Celsius. UL approval under file MH30127 confirms compliance with recognised safety requirements. The positive and negative terminals are the usual flat-top and recessed contacts found on AA primary cells.
