Oculink SFF-8611/8612 to PCI-E 4.0 adapter

This adapter links an Oculink SFF-8611 or SFF-8612 host port to a full-length PCI-E 4.0 16x slot. It targets builders who want to run a graphics card, storage controller or other expansion board from a laptop or small-form-factor system that only exposes an Oculink 4x connection. The board accepts standard 16x, 8x or 4x cards such as USB, LAN, 1394, audio or GPU devices. It is not for users who need multiple simultaneous PCI-E devices from a single Oculink link.

SATA auxiliary power and internal mounting

A SATA power connector on the PCB supplies up to 12V 2A to the installed card when the Oculink link cannot deliver enough current. The converter mounts inside the chassis through the SFF-8611/8612 interface, keeping the expansion slot accessible for full-height cards. No external power brick is included, so a spare SATA lead from the host PSU is required. Builders without an internal SATA power cable or with cards that draw more than the 12V 2A limit will need a different solution.

Thermals noise and power in normal use

The adapter itself is a passive PCB with no fan, so it adds no audible noise and negligible heat to the system. Power draw is limited to the 12V 2A ceiling from the SATA connector plus whatever the host Oculink port provides. Under typical workloads the board runs cool, but sustained high-throughput transfers on a power-hungry graphics card may hit the auxiliary current limit and cause instability. Users should verify their card's power profile before relying on the SATA feed alone.
