This Kastar NP-FM50 AC wall charger replaces original Sony chargers for a wide range of Digital8, MiniDV and Cyber-shot models. It accepts the NP-FM, NP-QM and compatible lithium-ion battery packs used across dozens of camcorders and still cameras. The foldable flat plug makes it compact for travel or desktop use. It is designed for owners of the listed Sony devices who need a direct replacement charger.

Charging Behaviour Under Load

The charger delivers a steady DC 8.4 V at 600 mA output, so each battery charges at a constant current rather than a rapid burst. A red LED stays lit while the pack is accepting charge and switches to green once the cell reaches full capacity or enters standby. This fixed-rate approach keeps cell temperature stable during the full charging cycle. The unit draws power from any AC 100–240 V 50–60 Hz mains supply worldwide.

Practical Limits of the AC Interface

Because the charger connects directly to a wall socket, its only physical constraint is the foldable flat-pin plug and the fixed 8.4 V 600 mA output specification. It cannot charge batteries outside the listed Sony NP-FM and NP-QM series, nor can it power the camera while shooting. Users needing simultaneous charge-and-record operation or higher charge currents will require a different solution. The AC input range covers global mains voltages without additional adapters.
