Shaft Collar for 2-1/2 Inch Round Bores

This carbon steel shaft collar fits a 2-1/2 inch round bore with a 3-1/2 inch outside diameter and a one inch width. The single piece construction uses a set screw made from the same carbon steel to clamp onto the shaft. It is suited for positioning components on inch sized shafts in power transmission assemblies.

Set Screw Holding Limits on Carbon Steel

The collar relies on a single carbon steel set screw to transmit torque and axial loads through friction against the shaft. Holding power depends on shaft surface finish, hardness and the screw seating torque applied during installation. Over tightening can damage the screw threads or mar the shaft, while under tightening allows slippage under vibration or reversing loads.

Grade 1211 Steel Construction and Daily Use

The collar body and screw are machined from 1211 grade carbon steel, giving a smooth surface that resists galling during repeated adjustments. The one piece design has no hinge or split to collect debris, so it stays clean in dusty shop environments. The plain steel finish will show surface rust if exposed to moisture, so dry storage or a light oil film is advisable for long term service.
