Three-Piece Tap Kit

This Cleveland C54741 set contains three straight-flute hand taps in a 1/2"-20 UNF thread size. The kit includes taper, plug and bottoming styles so you can start, deepen and finish threads in a single pass. High-speed steel construction gives the cutting edges durability across repeated use in a workshop environment. The bright, uncoated finish is suitable for general-purpose threading tasks.

Build Integration

Each tap measures 3 3/8 inches overall with a 15/16 inch thread length, fitting standard tap wrenches and holders. The four-flute design clears chips efficiently when cutting right-hand threads in through or blind holes. A 75 percent thread drill size of 11.40 mm prepares the workpiece for accurate engagement. The taps require only a compatible wrench and cutting fluid to operate.

Capacity and Headroom

Class 2B thread limits produce a 3B class of fit, meeting standard Unified Fine tolerances for fastening applications. The high-speed steel handles carbon steels, alloy steels and non-ferrous metals within typical hand-tapping torque ranges. Very hard or abrasive alloys will wear the uncoated flutes faster than coated alternatives. Extremely deep blind holes may exceed the 15/16 inch thread length and require a different tool.
