135 Degree Split Point Limits

The 135 degree point angle is optimised for harder materials such as stainless steel and alloy steels, but it can grab aggressively in soft plastics or thin sheet metal if feed pressure is not controlled. The split point geometry eliminates the need for a pilot hole in most ferrous metals, yet it offers no advantage in non-metallic composites where a brad point would cut cleaner. Coolant through capability is absent, so deep holes in tough alloys require frequent pecking and external lubrication.

Jobber Length Capacity and Headroom

At jobber length the bit provides enough flute length for holes up to roughly two inches deep in mild steel before chip evacuation becomes the limiting factor. The black and gold surface treatment adds lubricity and corrosion resistance, extending tool life in production runs of several hundred holes per bit. Once the cutting lips wear beyond the split point geometry the bit loses its self-centring ability and must be resharpened or replaced.
