The Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L USM is a constant-aperture telephoto zoom built for professional photographers and advanced hobbyists. It covers a 70-200mm focal range on both 35mm full-frame and Canon APS-C formats. Four UD glass elements correct chromatic aberrations to deliver image quality comparable to prime lenses. The lens accepts 77mm filters and includes a removable tripod collar.

Sustained optical performance at constant f/2.8

The maximum aperture remains f/2.8 throughout the zoom range, maintaining shallow depth of field and low-light capability from 70mm to 200mm. Inner focusing with a ring-type USM drives fast, smooth autofocus without extending the barrel during focus acquisition. A focus range limiter reduces hunting time by restricting the search distance. The optical formula uses 18 elements in 15 groups to sustain contrast and sharpness across the frame.

Thermals noise and power draw in normal use

Passive thermal management relies on the white barrel finish to reflect heat during extended shooting sessions. The ultrasonic motor operates quietly, minimising mechanical noise during both autofocus and manual focus override. Power is drawn solely from the camera body through the EF mount, with no external supply required. Compatibility with EF 1.4x and 2x II extenders adds reach without changing the lens's physical operation.
