Multi-mode distance limit and temperature range

The 850 nm wavelength on multi-mode fibre caps the practical reach at 500 metres, so longer campus or metro links will require a different optic. Operating temperature is rated from 0 to 70 °C, which fits standard commercial environments but not extended industrial ranges. The LC duplex connector matches the SFP MSA footprint, so the module fits any compliant cage without mechanical modification. Digital diagnostics are supported for link monitoring.

1 Gbps headroom for typical access-layer traffic

At 1 Gbps the module comfortably handles ordinary access-layer workloads such as workstation uplinks, VoIP trunks and light server replication. It runs out of bandwidth when aggregate traffic approaches wire speed on multiple simultaneous streams or when jumbo-frame loads saturate the single gigabit lane. For 10 Gbps or higher aggregation a separate SFP+ or QSFP solution is required. The 500-metre reach covers most intra-building runs but not inter-building campus spans.
