The PYXIS 12K L Mount is a full-frame digital film camera designed for crews who need a compact, configurable body that can be stripped down or built up with side plates and accessories. Its 12,288 x 8040 open-gate sensor captures 12K 3:2 frames and 16 stops of dynamic range, giving colourists latitude for heavy grading and visual-effects pipelines. The fixed L-Mount accepts current full-frame lenses and a wide range of adapters, so owner-operators and rental houses can match glass to each job without changing mounts.

CFexpress and Ethernet define the recording workflow

Dual CFexpress slots are the only onboard media path; there is no internal recording to other card formats or drives. Maximum sustained frame rates reach 60 fps in 12K 2.4:1 and 112 fps in 8K or 4K 2.4:1, so high-speed offload cards are essential to avoid dropped frames. The Ethernet port enables direct upload to Blackmagic Cloud, but bandwidth depends entirely on the network infrastructure at the location, not on the camera itself.

Verify lens coverage and power strategy before

The 36 x 24 mm sensor demands full-frame image circles; lenses designed for smaller formats will vignette or require crop modes that reduce resolution. Native ISO is 800, so exposure planning for very low-light scenes should account for that baseline sensitivity. The modular body has no built-in battery plate or monitor, so a compatible power solution and external viewing option must be sourced separately.
